Down Wind,a fine dry point of an English Setter in the field by Marguerite Kirmse,1885-1954. Signed lower right and titled in pencil lower left. Glazed,matted,and framed. Over all size 13 inches high by 14 1/2 inches wide. Excellent condition.
Marguerite Kirmse left her native England for New York City to continue her studies on the harp and pursue a career in music. She was fascinated with animals and often sketched them at the Bronx Zoo. Dry points became her speciality after she completed her first one in 1921.
Kirmse's "Dogs In The Field" Derrydale Press,1935, a limited edition of 685 was her magnum opus and is now a sought after out of print book.
