A mahogany stained birchwood candle stand with a vasi-form pillar raised on cabriole legs. New England, Ca.1775-1790. 27 inches high, Top 20 1/2 inches in diameter.
This find is notable for its untouched condition. The top has minor surface scratches and one leg is pinned to the base of the pillar.
The arch of the legs at the knees as well as the lift of the foot pads is exceptional and gives this stand a sculptural quality.
