The Orono was built in Bucksport, Maine in 1851. She measured 80 feet long with a beam of 29 feet 9 inches and drew 5 feet 7 inches. The picture records what was probably the first Atlantic crossing of the Orono. Pellegrin is considered one of the best Mediterranean port painters of the 19th century.
