On the reverse of the painting "SFM Badger Charlestown" and a small label identifying the captain of the vessel as J. S. Pinkham of Bath, Maine.
The M.V.B. Chase measured 113.3 feet long, 35.1 feet wide and drew 12 feet. She was built in her homeport of Bath, Maine in 1882. After Captain Pinkham left Boston with his new picture of his vessel he stopped in Portland where he had his painting framed See the last label on our website listing.
Designed as a fore and aft 3 masted schooner, the Chase is shown with all sails aloft and the Union Jack atop the fore mast, the ship's pennant on the main mast and the US Ensign on the mizzen. The condition of this painting is flawless with a bright, clean palette. It was lightly cleaned to remove surface soot and grime.
