A pair of oval brass sconces having all-over repousse motifs of sunflowers and leafage. Holland or the Low Countries. Ca. 1675-1725. Excellent condition. Professionally restored by BALL and BALL, Exton, PA. 22 inches high by 12 inches wide.
Wall sconces such as this fine pair were extremely popular in the homes of the well to do. The embossed decoration reflected light out into the room and lit dreary entryways and chambers. Oval sconces of this type were exported from Dutch ports to the colonies and ports throughout the World.
