The E.B. Sutton of New York. Oil on board, Signed and dated 1915 lower right. Sight size 12 inches high x 20 inches wide. Mounted in a hand carved, gold leafed custom frame measuring 16 inches high x 24 inches wide. Excellent condition.
The E. B. Sutton was built in Bath, Maine in 1881. She was owned by I.F. Chapman and her home port was New York City. She was 227 feet long, her breadth was 41 feet and her depth was 17 feet.
Antonio Jacobsen painted at least two other portraits of this vessel. They are listed in Sniffen's first checklist. This painting was unrecorded in 1984. A. J. Peluso reports in the May (2011) edition of the Maine Antiques Digest that Jacobsen painted at a rate of one painting every two hours!
