A choice inlaid bird's-eye maple American Federal period tea caddy having spread winged eagles with Federal sheilds with oval reserves on both the lid and facade. New England, ca. 1800. 5 1/4 inches high, 9 inches long, 5 1/4 inches deep.
The interior has two compartments, each with inlaid lids fitted with small brass knobs. The secondary wood is white pine. The inlay schedule is cross banding, fine checker board stringing and ebony edges.
This box is in excellent condition. There are no repairs...ever.
